This novel delivers a powerful, multi-generational portrayal of life for a woman in 15th-century China. It doesn’t just tell a story; it brings you in.
This isn’t a loud, action-packed tale.
The writing is quiet, deliberate, and deeply engaging, and it commands the reader’s attention.
While as a man I thought of the old saying ‘Too much information’, as I read some of the descriptive paragraphs, the author did a wonderful job in bringing to the surface what women had to endure in a time that sought to silence them.
A great read and glad my book club recommended it.
