JANE AUSTEN

This reader belongs to a book club and the ladies in the group decided that Jane Austen’s “Emma” would be a delightful book to read and discuss in our April 2025 meeting. I went to my local library and checked out the worn-out Penguin Classics version, which gave me shivers, thinking this was going to be a terrific read.
I remember vaguely having to read “Emma” back in 1968 for English class, but I did not have an accurate recollection of what I felt back such a long time ago.
My thoughts were a more mature me would appreciate the wonders of Austen’s writing.
What I received was 453 pages of total pain.
Not once can I say that I enjoyed this book (being a man might be a reason) but I was not charmed by Emma the character nor any of the other characters.
Add to this and having nothing to do with the author, the print on the book was tiny and made the book difficult to enjoy as well.
