This is a fun and engaging space opera that delivers on its promises. The concept of an orphan girl raised on a sentient space freighter with a quirky crew is instantly captivating, and author M. Garnet works her magic and does an excellent job of building this unique, found-family dynamic.
I genuinely felt for the main protagonist (Captain Dwane Mina Romane Amer Challe) and her rather unconventional upbringing, making her rise to captaincy even more satisfying.
The initial sections of the book, detailing her life on the freighter and her mastery of the space lanes, makes for a good read and the rest of the ship’s complement (the Captain’s partners) are unique characters which really makes the story truly shine. The writing is crisp, and the bond between the crew is unmistakable.
The plot takes an exciting turn with the introduction of aliens, or are they really aliens (this reader will not spoil it). The author makes an excellent narrative from a character-driven coming-of-age story to a high-stakes sci-fi adventure.
My only hesitation in giving it a full five stars is that the pacing felt a little rushed in some parts. The story could have explored the discovery of the aliens and the subsequent journey with darker and suspenseful in depth and at a slower pace, especially considering the aliens’ centuries of warfare.
I also felt that the author could have strengthened the connection between Quon and Captain Dwane Mina Romane Amer Challe a bit more.
I’d highly recommend this novel to anyone who loves sci-fi that includes a healthy dose of action and a compelling, unique premise.
Bottom line, author M. Garnet delivers a great storyline. This is a solid space opera with heart.

M. Garnet’s book “Merged Event” plunges you headfirst into a fascinating premise: what if you suddenly found yourself sharing a mind with someone light-years away?
We meet Nina Brice Gurten, a scientist, and Yez a Warrior, both survivors of catastrophic antimatter explosions on vastly different worlds.
Each has his or her own individual struggles after an explosion that somehow affected their minds.
There is distrust at first, but slowly a bond builds in both through their shared voice and double vision that allows each of them to see the other’s world. The ending of the novel reveals the depth of this trust.
Ms Garnet masterfully builds suspense around this connection, making you question along with the characters whether they’ve gone insane or if something far more profound (and dangerous) is at play.
The pacing feels quick and relentless, pulling you through the mystery of their shared consciousness and the broader implications of the antimatter incident. It’s a genuinely clever concept, executed with enough intrigue to keep the pages turning.
While the core mystery is incredibly engaging, there were a few moments where the narrative felt like it was setting up for a slightly more predictable path than I’d hoped, preventing it from being a full five-star read.
If you’re looking for a sci-fi thriller that blends action with a deep dive into consciousness and identity, this is definitely one to pick up.
It’s a strong, imaginative entry into the genre that leaves you eager for more.

Working the night beat in a city steeped in shadow and peril, two detectives stand back-to-back, their differences their strength. One, a lanky computer geek with a beautiful wife, dissects every crime like a puzzle, believing only in what’s provable. The other, a handsome behemoth, lives only with his black cat and a taste for a Charger Hellcat, yet carries a subtle, inexplicable touch of magic.
They’re the captain’s go-to for the truly strange, but their current case is the most unusual yet. Amidst a flurry of grotesque deaths, the big detective finds himself surprisingly drawn to a fierce attorney defending the weak. Still, they can’t stem the tide of murders, nor can they unmask the elusive figure orchestrating the killings throughout their rain-slicked, dark city.
If you like a story with murder, magic, sex, intrigue, M. Garnet delivers it to you in “Killing with Love”.

In M. Garnet’s book ‘The Night Watcher’, Detective Damian Walker finds that the dames in this story didn’t mince words, and neither did the mugs.
The dialogue is sharp, cutting through like a switchblade. No flowery prose, no wasted syllables—just the raw, unfiltered truth served up neatly.
If you’ve got a soft spot for fedoras, femme fatales, and the justice that comes out of the barrel of a .38, then this one’s got your name all over it.
Author M. Garnet’s got the goods in this fast-paced novel, and she’s not afraid to spill them. An excellent read.

OK, you pick up a book and read through some of the pages and figure out that the protagonist is an ex-military professional that is now working for the transportation company Shayde Transports Corporation.
Shayde Transports Corporation?
Well, that sounded intriguing and juicy to me, so I purchase the paperback and start into a fascinating read.
Our protagonist is Captain Kina Russel, a superb pilot delivering passengers until there is an issue of a stow-away.
A shadow is how Kina described it to her superiors.
That did not go well for Kina, who decided that the best solution for the company was to demote her from her ship to a new one, the Eclipse Shayde, a less glamorous cargo spaceship, but with an interesting new crew and AI.
Thinking that the demotion at least would let the stowaway (or is it a stalker?) go away, Kina relaxed.
It does not.
What was worse, during a confrontation with the shadow/stalker, he filled her mind with the idea that she could have a better life in dark space, where she would not be bound by the rules of Shayde Transports Corporation but could be free on her own ship.
What was the secret this stalker knew she needed to discover?
Will Kina take heed of the ideas that are presented to her?
Who is this shadow/stalker? Is he a friend or a foe?
Read M. Garnet’s Dark Space Secrets to find out.
You will enjoy it; I know I did and hope to read more of M. Garnet’s novels in the future.

Your life has taken a few turns, and you know you need a change of direction, and that is exactly what Sara Donaldson thought.
She sees an ad for a bookkeeper in the little town of Benson Colorado, so she packs her few possessions and leaves Florida behind.
She gets settled in her new job, makes a few new acquaintances and as she lies one night on her bed watching the shadows of the nearby tree dance on her wall, she hears a man’s voice in her head: “Ouch. I hate this bunk. It’s too short.”
These words plunged Sara into an adventure she never thought she would experience.
Author M. Garnet has spun another intriguing story that brings elements of science fiction and romance blended to deliver a delightful story with an interesting ending.
If you like those two genres, this is a book for you.
I highly recommend this easy to read and absorbing story.
